Exhibition Insight How Do Overseas Customers Evaluate a CNC Lathe at CCMT 2026

Apr 24, 2026

From April 21 to 25, 2026, the 14th China CNC Machine Tool Fair (CCMT) was successfully held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. DAS showcased several key models, including the all-new Dual 8-inch Spindle Dual Y-axis Power Turret CNC Lathe (TA-8-DIY), the Y-axis Power Turret Turning-Milling Compound CNC Lathe with Programmable Tailstock (TM700-8PY), the Virtual Y-axis Power Turret CNC Lathe with Programmable Tailstock (TX800-8VY), and the Flat Bed Gang Type Mini CNC Lathe (DS-25A).

One key observation from the show: for overseas customers, the real purchasing driver is rarely price alone. Instead, they ask one critical question — can this machine consistently make money?

Here are the seven dimensions customers use to evaluate a CNC lathe on the exhibition floor.

IMachining Capability (Top Priority)

1. What can it make?

Customers first check:

Max turning diameter and length

Material compatibility (e.g., stainless steel, titanium alloy)

Typical questions:

Can it machine stainless steel?

What is the maximum turning diameter?

2. Machining Accuracy

Key concerns:

Repeatability (±0.005mm / ±0.01mm)

Roundness, coaxiality, surface roughness

Long-term accuracy stability

Many bring sample parts to check surface finish directly.

3. Machining Efficiency

Key metrics:

Cycle time

Tool change speed, rapid traverse

Dual-channel machining support

What customers really want to know:

How much faster is your machine than the competitor’s on the same part?

II. Machine Structure & Stability

Machine Weight: Customers are increasingly knowledgeable. They ask directly — Net weight? Heavier beds offer better vibration damping, rigidity, and stability.

Cast Iron Quality: Meehanite, HT300, resin sand casting — these determine deformation resistance and service life.

Guideway Type: Linear vs. box way; brands like THK, HIWIN, PMI.

III. Core Component Brands

This is where customers drill down:

CNC Controller: Fanuc? Siemens? Mitsubishi? SYNTEC?

Servo Motors: Brand, power, serviceability

Spindle Bearings: SKF, NSK, FAG

Ball Screws: C3 or C5 grade? Brand origin?

IV. Automation Readiness

Automation is rising fast. Customers are no longer just buying a stand-alone machine — they are investing in automated production cells.

They check:

Compatibility with bar feeders, robots, gantry loaders

Auto loading/unloading, lights-out capabilities

Automation interfaces, I/O expansion, robot integration

V. Maintenance Cost (TCO)

Mature customers focus on Total Cost of Ownership.

They may accept a $5,000 higher machine price — but not a three-day downtime waiting for spare parts.

Key considerations:

Price of wear parts

Spare parts availability

Service response time

VI. Brand & Factory Strength

At the exhibition, customers also evaluate the manufacturer:

Factory size, annual output, number of employees

Export markets, years in business

Typical questions:

How many machines do you produce per month?

How many countries have you exported to?
